Objective
This coursework aims to assess your understanding and application of human
resource (HR) concepts, knowledge and skills at the company that you work in.
Introduction
This is an individual coursework assignment. You are to make use of what you have
learned in this course to better understand the human resource roles and functions.

Format of assignment
Part 1: Presentation
• Your main assignment should be done in presentation format using Microsoft
Powerpoint. Your presentation document should contain between FIFTEEN (15)

slide). You should include your explanations at the notes section of each slide.
Part 2: Individual Reflection
• Your answer to Section 6 – Reflection, should be typed out in the same powerpoint
document and should be between 300 – 500 words long.

Section 1: Company Background
Provide general information about the company that you work in. This includes:
• The industry that your company belongs to
• Brief descriiption of the company business activities
• Size of the company in terms of number of staff in the company
• Organisation structure or chart of the company
• Department you are attached in the company
Tips:
• You may want to speak with your supervisor and/or the HR team about the
information that must be collected. You may also refer to your company’s
intranet or employee handbook for relevant information.
Section 2: HR and its role in the Company
In this section, you are required to introduce the structure of your company’s HR
department and/or the chart including the different HR functional areas.
Select TWO (2) of these functional areas. For each functional area, share at least
THREE (3) activities they perform for your organisation.
Section 3: Supporting the Business
Interview your company’s HR department and with the sharing of the mission, vision
and values (MVV) of the company you are to:
• Set TWO (2) SMART goals to help support the MVV of the company.
• Describe TWO (2) Specific HR Strategies you would adopt to help support the
MVV.

• Do learn more about the company’s vision and mission and values.
• Refer to your notes on the various Specific HR Strategies available and relate
it to how it applies to your organization.
Section 4: Application of Employment-Related Legislation
Based on the two HR functional areas described in Section 2, suggest and explain
ONE (1) Employment-related legislation and guideline that influence each of the HR
functional areas. Provide examples of application of the Employment-related
legislation for each of the HR functional areas.
Tips:
• Do learn more about the employment-related legislation and guidelines in MOM
website and lecture notes.
• Refer to your notes on the various application of these legislation to the HR
functions.
Section 5: Employee Engagement
You are required to describe TWO (2) successful engagement programmes/ activities
that the HR department has implemented. Explain the impact and the measurement
used to evaluate the effectiveness.
If there are no such programmes currently, recommend TWO (2) engagement
activities appropriate for the company. Explain what would be the impact and what
measurement would you use.
Tips:
▪ Consider if the measurement includes both quantitative and qualitative nature
of data.
▪ You may use the following as source of information: observations in your daily
work, personal experiences, interviews with HR team or management or other
colleagues, employee’s bulletin or other sources, as reference materials and
illustrations for this coursework. You are advised to discuss with your supervisor
and seek clearance for materials used in this section.
Section 6: Reflection
You are required to reflect on key learning points during the course of this assignment
by answering the following questions:
• How did you overcome the challenges faced while preparing the assignment?
• How does this assignment help to facilitate your role in the company?
• How would you approach this project differently if you are given another attempt?
The write up should be about 300 – 500 words long.
