Using Medical Terms, Abbreviations and Acronyms on the Job
As we have determined, there are many terms, abbreviations, and acronyms that health care professionals need to know and understand as part of their job responsibilities. It is important for you to familiar yourself with the most common terms that a medical coder and billing specialist would be exposed to.
Explore common medical abbreviations and acronyms used by coders and billers as it relates to insurance and reimbursement.
Include the following aspects in the assignment:
Ø Using Chapter 20 of 3-2-1 Code It, determine which application and layout will work best to create your resource. This may be a Word document using a chart or table, an Excel sheet, Power Point slide or other application of your choice. (To access Chapter 20 of your textbook, select the “>eBook: 3-2-1 Code it!” link in the left-hand navigation menu and use the Table of Contents.)
Ø Select ten insurance and reimbursement abbreviations or acronyms that you feel you should be familiar with
Ø Define each of your selections in your own words
Ø Explain why you would need to know this information
Ø Discuss two strategies that you could use to help you increase your understanding and “library” of terms
Imagine you are an IT customer service specialist who has received a call from a users that he or she cannot access a folder or a file on the Windows network. In this discussion, you need to do the following:
Discuss the sequence of steps you would take to troubleshoot this call. Discuss three possible sources of the problem and suggest what you would do to solve them.
Discuss which of the following would be your Windows interface preference for servicing this call. What are the considerations?
Windows Command Prompt.
The police arrested Jack Daniels for driving under the influence of alcohol. Daniels had no criminal history, which made him eligible for diversion. If Daniels completes his diversionary contract within 90-days, the court will dismiss his charges. Daniels accept the diversion contract in which he must attend a group counseling meeting each week for 90-days given by Mike Ponzi a community corrections counselor.
Daniels happens to have a good job and makes 200,000 dollars a year. After attending the first counseling meeting, Daniels feels that these meetings are beneath him and a waste of time. At the second meeting, Daniels waits for all the other members to leave then approaches Ponzi, and says, “I would like to offer you two roundtrip airline tickets to anywhere in the Continental U.S. All you have to do is sign off on my attendance sheet that I have to turn into the court to prove that I attended all my meetings.”
Ponzi replies, “I suppose it would not hurt anything to sign off on your sheet, you are not a repeat offender. I will do it but if you ever say I did this, I will tell the court that you forged my signature.”
Daniels hands Ponzi the airline ticket vouchers.
Ponzi postdated the rest of the meetings on Daniels attendance sheet, signs off on it, hands it back to Daniels and says, “It is a pleasure doing business with you.”
In a 2 to 3 paragraphs, a minimum of 250 words, identify the ethical system that you believe explains the scenario above- support your response. Also, apply information from chapter 13 and discuss some of the consequences that may occur from Ponzi’s misconduct. Give an example of how organizations can reduce unethical behaviors from community correction personnel.

This week we explored the idea corporate social responsibility alongside an examination of the role of business in society. One opinion characterized as the dominant view, put forward by Milton Friedman, hold’s the purpose of business is to make as much legal profit for its owners as possible. Contrasted with this is the stakeholder view, put forward by Edward R. Freeman, which claims the function of a business is to provide value for a complex network of stakeholders throughout the society in which it operates. While these two views are not mutually exclusively, decisions must regularly be made in which one view must be prioritized over the other.
Regarding The Case of the Hungry Children (see separate page within the module) a major multinational electronics company (Havells) undertook an initiative to ensure tens of thousands of school children were fed and educated. This behavior contrasts Friedman’s position, who argued such actions should only be taken by individuals and by governments. However, the case also makes the point that such behaviors are ultimately in line with a business’s bottom line (profit) interests. Using information from our three chapters this week respond to the following prompts.
Do the motives behind Havells’ action change the ethical nature of their programs? In other words, if done purely out of enlightened self-interest are the programs less ethical? Defend your answer with ethical reasoning from week one.
Consider Duska’s example of the distinction between a purpose of education (to develop one’s mind) and the motive for education (to get a job). Now, craft a position statement (2-3 sentences) on what the purpose of a business is; being sure to support the position with reasoning you encountered this week from one of our authors.
Freeman claims “Capitalism works because we can pursue our purpose with others”, which highlights the interdependent nature of the system. The larger a company, the more it requires involvement and support of “others” to achieve its operational goals. Given this awareness do you believe corporations have a responsibility to positively contribute to society in a way commensurate to their resources (i.e. more wealthy corporations have more responsibility)? Why or why not?
Discussion Board Assignments:
Submissions should be between 300-600 words.
First, review the required module resources, examining the behavioral competencies within the interpersonal domain. As a reminder, the three main clusters within the interpersonal domain are relationship management, global and cultural effectiveness, and communication. Once you are familiar with the interpersonal domain clusters, conduct a self-reflection and analysis by responding to each of the following three questions:
Strengths: What are your areas of strength within the interpersonal domain, and how did you determine a cluster as a strength? Provide supportive examples.
Weaknesses: What are your areas of weakness within the interpersonal domain, and how did you determine a cluster as a weakness? Provide supportive examples.
Strategies: What are your strategies for the development of behavioral competencies within the interpersonal domain? Provide supportive examples and information from your research
Similar to Week 3, this assignment introduces a leader with a bold vision for change. This offers the opportunity to practice using an organizational change readiness assessment to determine where the organization might not be ready to keep up with this plan. Based on this assessment, you will practice using a change model to improve readiness for a successful implementation.
Read the following scenario from Ch. 10, “Change Management, Processual, and Contingency Approaches,” of Managing Organizational Change: A Multiple Perspectives Approach:
Scenario: The Italian Job
Write a 525- to 700-word paper that addresses the following:
Identify how effectively Inter Milan has applied the Change Kaleidoscope to forecast project outcomes.
Analyze change management validity tools that could be used to evaluate approaches to the problem stated.
Analyze the situation and give Erick Thohir and his team advice about the change implementation design options they should consider.
Assess the major mistakes you would advise them to avoid when implementing their proposed changes.
Logical functions, such as the IF and IFS functions, provide accountants with a lot of power to ensure that accurate and correct data is processed in Excel. Identify and discuss at least three types of accounting worksheets that will benefit from using logical functions like the IF function. Explain why these worksheets would benefit from the use of logical functions. Justify your response.
1. Define and differentiate the various functional areas, departments, or business units of your chosen company.
2. Analyze how these functional areas, departments, or business units work together to achieve strategic and operational goals. For example, consider their product design or customer service achievements.

– What strategies of your chosen company can be applied to your current company?
Read Chapters 18 and 19 of Macroeconomics: Private and Public Choice.
In Chapter 9 you were introduced to the terms trade deficit and trade surplus. In Chapter 19 your view of imports and exports was expanded to include the balance of payments. As part of the balance of payment calculation, trade deficit or trade surplus is called balance on goods and services (p. 396, exhibit 5, line 7). Business news commonly use the term trade deficit to discuss the U.S. economy rather than your textbook’s favored term, balance on goods and services. The trade deficit or trade surplus (p. 396, exhibit 5, line 7) has the biggest impact on the current account.
Politicians often warn us about the problems of the US having a trade deficit. For this discussion, cordially debate whether the US should be concerned about our trade deficit.
For your initial post, first discuss how the balance of payments can influence exchange rates and purchasing power. Then take a position either for or against trade deficits. In your position, address the pros and cons of the U.S. trade deficits. There are many supplemental resources available to assist you with this debate.
1Compare vulnerable populations. Describe an example of one of these groups in the United States or from another country. Explain why the population is designated as “vulnerable.” Include the number of individuals belonging to this group and the specific challenges or issues involved. Discuss why these populations are unable to advocate for themselves, the ethical issues that must be considered when working with these groups, and how nursing advocacy would be beneficial.
2.How does the community health nurse recognize bias, stereotypes, and implicit bias within the community? How should the nurse address these concepts to ensure health promotion activities are culturally competent? Propose strategies that you can employ to reduce cultural dissonance and bias to deliver culturally competent care. Include an evidence-based article that address the cultural issue. Cite and reference the article in APA format.
