Visit the search engine at http://www.bing.com and conduct a search using the keyword “Chevrolet.” Carefully examine the first two pages of results and answer the following questions:
1. State the location (city, state) from where you conducted the search. (1 points)
2. How many paid (ad) links appear on the first two pages? Name the links. Note if any sponsored (ad) links appear more than once in the first two pages. (4 points)
3. Do you see any common results (links) between the paid (ad) links section and the organic (free) search results (that is, the same link appears in both the paid and organic results sections)? Name these links. (3 points)
4. How many locally targeted links do you find in the first two pages of the search results? Name these links (from both the paid and organic results sections). (6 points)
5. This is a conceptual question. If the same link appears in both the organic and paid search results sections, it means that the relevant website is optimized well enough to appear in the organic results section within the first two pages, and the site has also bid a pay-per-click price that is high enough to secure a high ranking in the paid results section. Isn’t this redundant? Why would a business go to the trouble of bidding for a high rank in the paid results section as well as optimize the site to appear high in the organic results section? (6 points)
