The following are the criteria that will be used to determine the assessment grade.
90 – 100: An outstanding piece of scholarly work in all respects.
80-89: Extremely thorough research with highly developed powers of criticism and analysis; a
mature ability to synthesise received information with personal theory to produce an original
piece of work; a total absence of irrelevant information; an exemplary literary style; a
comprehensive and correctly presented bibliography; excellent and extensive use of critical
methodology.
70 – 79: Thorough research with highly developed powers of criticism and analysis; a mature
ability to synthesise received information with personal theory to produce an original piece of
work; a total absence of irrelevant information; an excellent literary style; a comprehensive and
correctly presented bibliography; good and extensive use of critical methodology.
60 – 69: Good research with well developed powers of criticism and analysis; an ability to
synthesise received information with personal theory to produce a largely original piece of work;
relevant information; a fluent literary style; a well presented bibliography; some use of critical
methodology
50 – 59: Sufficient research with some critical and analytical ability; work which shows a degree
of originality based on a reasonable synthesis of received information and personal opinion;
generally relevant information; an appropriate literary style; a bibliography; some reasonable but
basic use of critical methodology.
25-49: Insufficient research; inability to analyse and criticise; few original ideas; irrelevant
