In this assignment, students will develop their Critical Thinking Skills, demonstrate the ability to research, analyze, and evaluate the synthesis of artist/bands, styles, and the historical and cultural context within.  In addition, students will develop their Communication Skills, demonstrate an understanding of selected music terminology, and develop effective written, oral, and audio communication focused on artists/bands, styles, and historical cultural context.  The final project should be a verbal presentation with a PowerPoint that is no longer than 15 minutes.      
Assignment Title:  Rock and Roll Artist/Band Presentation
Assignment Description (for Students):  Students will choose an Artist/Band from the list provided by the Professor within this assignment.
Students will create a verbal presentation with a PowerPoint (7 to 10 minutes). 
Students may use various means to verbally present their presentations. Options include the following:
Embedded audio/video within your PowerPoint:  This is a viable option that can be integrated directly into your presentation as it plays for your professor.
Video presentation:  You may also choose to capture your own video of your presenting your project.
***Keep in mind that your PowerPoint must be visible and running at all times throughout your presentation.  Your professor will be grading both your verbal communication skills as well as the quality and information located within your presentation.
Failure to include Audio of your presentation will result in the grade of a 0 on your project.
Student presentations must cover, but are not limited to the following information about their Artist/Band:
Personal Historical Data:  Discuss the following background information of your Artist/Band. 
Who are they?
What are your artist/band’s dates? (Birth and death where applicable)
Where is your artist from (City/Country)? 
What is their primary style/genre of music?
Please provide at least one picture of your artist/band.  Multiple pictures are encouraged.
Musical Training, background, and Impact:  Discuss and describe any musical training or influences your artist/band may have had. Also discuss the following:  What social, political, technological and/or cultural impact has your artist had throughout their career? 
Does your artist have any Formal Training?
Were they influenced by other bands, religion, or cultural influences?  Describe and discuss the impact of these influences.
How did your band impact the following:  You may choose 1 or more to critically evaluate.   Social, political, technological and/or cultural impact.  Did you artist have a positive or perhaps negative impact regarding any of these throughout their career?
Analysis and interpretation of musical work:  Choose a song by your artist that is a work of significance to analyze.  Consider the following in your analysis.
Was your song written or inspired by a person or event?  If so, who or what, and why?
Discuss the overall style of your selected work.  How does the style of this selection compare to the overall style of the artist/band?
Within your analysis discuss the various musical elements employed throughout.  Take into account elements such as texture, rhythmic features, key/tonality, tempo and form.
Discuss any other features or elements you feel are important to your musical selection.
Please provide an audio/video sample of your song selection.
Works Cited:  A works cited must be provided with your presentation.  This must be a separate Word or PDF that is to be submitted along with your final presentation.  Please do not embed your works cited into your presentation as you will not receive credit for it unless it is a separeate document!!!
Your works cited must contain a minimum of 3 sources.  1 of these sources must be a non internet source (i.e. textbook, periodical, or other print source).  
Please use proper MLA format when creating your works cited page.  It is not necessary to do internal citing within your presentation, but it is acceptable if you would like to do so.
You will be graded by means of a rubric that can be found in the Dropbox associated with this assignment.
