In an essay with a clearly stated thesis sentence, explain how you believe our lives will be transformed after COVID-19.
Your essay needs to respond to at least one of the articles in the book. (Knorr, Lawrence, et al. After the Pandemic: Visions of Life Post COVID-19. Sunbury, 2020.)
Make sure this book is documented on a Works Cited list on a new page at the end of your essay. The title is formatted above as an MLA style bibliographic entry. Just copy and paste it.
The Works Cited list must also include sources from outside research. You also should do your own research. Each article is followed by a list of references. You can start there. You will also find good, credible sources in our Library.
You don’t necessarily have to agree or disagree with the article(s) you choose. It is possible to accept some points but refute others.
There are several options for developing and organizing the body of your essay. Whatever you choose, remember to structure each body paragraph according to the AXES or TRIAC schemas:
Examples: If your argument is based on one big or systemic change, you can explain one example of this change in each body paragraph. Because the 1500-essay usually has 6-8 total paragraphs, you would need 4-6 examples.
Narration: You can structure your vision of the future in a sequence of events, as if telling a story. If you choose this mode of development, you would need to choose carefully 4-6 main events, one for each body paragraph.
Process: This is similar to a narration in which you arrange the main points in a manner which shows one point leading logically to another.
Compare/Contrast: You can choose this option to illustrate changes as before-and-after contrasts. With this option you can also explain things that would not change after the pandemic.
Please also plan carefully how your essay starts and ends:
The introduction gives your reader an overview of the discussion coming up in the body of the paper, and lays out the thesis sentence. I strongly recommend that you write this paragraph after you have developed and drafted your analysis, and paste it at the top of the essay.
The conclusion brings your discussion to closure by reviewing and explaining the significance of your analysis.
