I’m working on a philosophy multi-part question and need a sample draft to help me understand better.
a. Why should I help someone else in need? Answer that question from the point of view of
two of the following: Hobbes, Hume, Kant. (18 points)
b. If many people need my help, and if I cannot possibly help everybody, how should I decide whom to help? Answer that question from the point of view of two of the following: Plato, Augustine, Bentham, Nietzsche. (12 points)
c. Describe how two of the following would describe the logical status of these claims about why I should help people and whom I should help — or, for that matter, any moral claims: Hume, Butler, Dewey. That is, when I claim that I should help someone or that I should help A rather than B, what is the basis for making that decision? (10 points)Then describe and evaluate what you would imagine any two of the non-Jewish, Western thinkers we have read would say about each of the four issues you chose.
Be sure to explain why you think that the non-Jewish thinker would take that position – that is, what in his theory leads you to believe that he would take the stance that you think he would take. Use different non-Jewish thinkers for each of the four topics you choose, for a total of eight non-Jewish thinkers; so, for example, if you use Plato to talk about sex, do not use him for any of the other three topics you choose.
