As stated in my syllabus, there will be one written paper required in this course. The format of the paper is:
4-5 pages long
typed
double-spaced
indented paragraphs
no extra lines between paragraphs
12-pt Times font
1” margins (top, bottom, left, right)
The paper should be written in your best English – I will not correct for grammar; but if I find it hard to read, it will be reflected in your grade
The paper must include an introduction, body, conclusion, and a list of references
The paper must include appropriate in-text citations of data, quotations, and ideas. Recommend using MLA style.
Your paper should have an appropriate list of references (i.e., give me a bibliography of the resources you used to write your paper). Possible sources are: Astronomy Magazine, Sky and Telescope Magazine, Astrophysical Journal, Science, Science News, astronomy videos, astronomy TV shows, amateur astronomy books, the internet – basically anything! If you are not sure that a source is acceptable, please run it by me first. I will require at least 4 references, one of which should be a site on the Internet. The online textbook is not an acceptable reference. Encyclopedias are not acceptable references. Proquest is not an Internet source. Wikipedia is not an acceptable reference. Any other course website or course notes is not an acceptable reference. Any other student’s paper on the subject is not an acceptable reference. MLA in-text citation style is recommended when citing information in the paper and for your bibliography, but you are welcome to use any proper citation style.
