I am a student that has contracted for an A and has used more absences then allotted so please consider that.
The following are the instructions for the concert reflection. The reflection can take any creative form you’d like: literary (poem, essay, short story, etc.), visual (painting, drawing, pottery, photography, etc.), performance (write a song, choreograph a dance, etc.), and should describe your personal connection to the repertoire from the semester. You can work on your own, with a partner, or in a small group. You can respond to the program as a whole, a few pieces from the program, or a single piece that you connected deeply with. You can also respond to what the ensemble itself has meant to you or specific relationships within the ensemble. You are welcome to send me questions, but I will guarantee you that any question that begins with “Can I do…” will be answered with a “yes.” The most important thing is that you are able to use an avenue of creativity to express some type of connection to Levana or the music or both. Please submit your final reflection to Canvas by Wednesday, May 1.
Is the concert reflection required? This depends on your grade contract from the beginning of the semester.
If you contracted for an A, you will need to complete a concert reflection in order to retain an A.
However, if you contracted for a B or lower and want to complete the reflection, this will remove 1 letter grades’ worth of absences from your record. For example, if you contracted for and used the absences for a C, completing the reflection would move you to a B.
If you contracted for an A but used more absences than allotted, in order to retain and A you must do one of the following:
If you submit a written reflection, please submit a document of at least 500 words.
If you submit a non-written reflection such as a drawing or video, please also submit a 200-300-word abstract/description of your concert reflection project. For example, if I contracted for an A but had 4 absences, I would submit painting about Song of Ruth AND a 200-300-word written abstract/description about my painting.
