I need a script for a 4-5 minute podcast (a creative media project) for my class “Theory of the Digital”. The project will be based on the texts, Simone Browne’s “Race and Surveillance” and Hito Steyerl’s “Mean Images”. But it should not be a textual analysis of the texts. If possible, include where I should I sound effects/music (and specify what kind of SFX). Maybe the podcast can be about historical context of surveillance, modern surveillance and AI, technololgy as a continuation of historical biases, the role of society in shaping technology/surveillance, etc. Need to connect with “the theory of the digital”.

Surveillance technologies, both historical and contemporary, not only enforce but also produce societal norms and biases, effectively shaping and perpetuating systems of racial and social classification.
Technology as a continuation of historical biases:
Both authors suggest that contemporary technologies are not neutral but are imbued with historical biases. For Browne, surveillance technologies have adapted but continue to target and marginalize based on race. For Steyerl, AI algorithms perpetuate and sometimes amplify biases present in their training data.

The Role of society in shaping technology:
Browne’s analysis of racializing surveillance shows that technology is a tool that reflects societal biases. Steyerl’s discussion on the role of AI in generating “mean images” mirrors this, highlighting how societal views are embedded within and propagated by technological systems.
It is dynamic, where one structures another, and the other determines.
I will also need a 1-2 page write-up to reflect on the project: my goal/intention (raise awareness? how it affect people’s reaction on the topic?), specify the medium (why podcast? how the medium works? why not printed work or other mediums?), my intended audience, technologies involved, and cited sources. It should also include how does the two texts inform the podcast, and mention some existing creative work that has sound component that is similar to mine. It need to elaborate on the connections that this project has with the themes of the course.
