For your concert report, you are going to watch a video of a concert of Western Classical Music. (If you are unsure of what will be allowed, please ask ahead of time). Use the following guidelines to write a 3 page paper about what you learned before, during, and after your experience. (You must use all of them.)
The first portion will be prepared before the performance. You are to research a few of the major pieces to be performed. In this section, you may tell me a little about the composers and the background of the music, itself, as well as the circumstances around it being written. USE YOUR OWN WORDS! Do not plagiarize or paraphrase! Cite short quotes accordingly when needed. Don’t use undependable sources, like Wikipedia. Use books from the library or the library’s online databases (like Grove Music or Oxford Music Online).
Now, discuss the performance, itself. Describe what you listened to.
What do you remember the most? How did it compare to your expectations? How did it make you feel? What did you think of the performer? Could you imagine yourself in the audience?
Now tie it all together. What did you learn from this experience, both in researching and witnessing this music? Would you watch a performance like this, again? Why or why not? How might this compare to a live concert experience?
Be sure to answer ALL of the questions. Your grade will be dependent on your doing so as well as tying them all together to get the main idea across. Your target audience is your fellow classmates. Correct spelling, grammar, and sentence structure are a necessity. I deduct one letter grade for each of the following: omitting a section of the question, excessive mechanical errors, poor presentation, or insufficient length.
I use a twelve-point font, Palatino. You should use a similar size font (like
Times New Roman. Standard margins are one-inch top and bottom, one and one-quarter inch side margins. You may double space. Your paper should be 3 typed pages, at least. This does not include a mandatory list of your sources that will be listed in standard MLA format. Your heading should include your name, my name, course and section number and the date you submit the paper.
