1. (18 pts) Look at the three writing prompts below. If these were papers you had to write, create a specific, focused thesis statement for each. Remember that a thesis statement should not be posed as a question. It should be specific enough to give the reader an idea of the over organization/focus of the paper. * Prompt 1: Choose one of the current US space treaties (Outer Space Treaty of 1967, the Commercial Space Act of 1984) and write a paper analyzing the greatest strengths and weaknesses of the treaty.
* Prompt 2: Evaluate which major space program/project (e.g., Apollo, Space Shuttle, ISS, Hubble, Sputnik, etc) has had (or is having) the greatest social impact on the world. Write a paper presenting a convincing, evidence-based argument for your choice.
* Prompt 3: Analyze the advantages and disadvantages of solar and nuclear power for spacecraft. Consider both power for sensor and other on-board systems and for propulsion.
2. (40 pts) Suppose you were asked to write a research paper for the writing prompt below. Find 5 scholarly (peer-reviewed) sources that would be relevant to use for the paper. Create a citation (in APA format) and annotation for each. The annotation should include both a summary and an evaluation of the source. Please see the following link for an excellent and concise introduction to the concept of writing annotated bibliographies. You must upload all five full articles along with this homework to receive credit. Remember, a scholarly source will have the following:
