This stage of the project will culminate in the submission of your research report that is submitted to this page (500-800 words)
Your report should include:
An outline of your project that identifies (these can be bullet points):
what social/cultural/political context and/or events you will address in your historical discussion
what song you will use for your musical analysis
what format your project will take – written “blog”/discussion post with A/V (see a sample of this format on Online Research Presentation Space), a YouTube video, or a one-episode podcast on your research subject.
If you elect to create an original video, please do so in whatever video editing software you are most comfortable with (iMovie, etc). The same applies for a podcast. Lifehacker has a detailed article titled “How to Start your own PodcastLinks to an external site.” that includes suggestions for free editing software (their #1 pick is AudacityLinks to an external site.) and hosting platforms (they suggest SoundcloudLinks to an external site.).
A draft of your introduction (minimum 250 words). If you would like to receive instructor/peer feedback on additional sections of the project, you may include drafts of your analysis, historical discussion, etc. at this stage.
An annotated bibliography of the sources you plan to use (minimum of five sources!), formatted according to the Chicago Manual of Style, with at least one note per source that indicates what you might use from it (general background, good quotes, specific details, etc).
What the research report is and isn’t: You research progress report is not the final version of your project nor a rough draft of your project (although you can use some of the verbiage from the report in the final). Instead, the research progress report is a short document (no more than 800 words) that shows me the current state of your project following the guidelines above.
