This exercise will provide you an opportunity to work individually by applying course concepts to a real-world scenario. Before you begin, read/review the resources listed in the Step 2 Explore section for Week 1.
Activity Instructions
Read the following scenario and write a short essay which answers the questions at the end. Be specific and thorough in answering the questions.
You have recently been hired as the Human Resources Director for a technology startup company. The company has just won a huge contract with an automotive company. This will double its revenue, which will also mean doubling its production.
Most of the jobs to be added are highly skilled jobs that require 6 months of training before the productivity of a new hire matches that of incumbent workers. In addition, you are currently facing a tight labor market in which you will likely have to pay more to entice workers to come to work for your organization.
You are tasked with creating a plan to expand the workforce to meet this demand. (Note: you will not actually create the plan for this assignment).
What issues must be considered in the short term (i.e., the next year)?
What issues must be considered for the longer term (i.e., one to five years)?
Refer to and cite at least one of the assigned resources and one additional reliable resource in your essay.
