Your
final-term assignment is a paper over the film linked to
this assignment “After Darwin: Genetics, Eugenics, and the Human Genome”. There
are many different topics discussed in this film that bring up ethical questions on how Genetic Research
currently impacts health care decisions as well as how it may impact health
care decisions in the future. The most important
component of this paper is your ability to connect ethical concepts (Utilitarianism and Natural Law Ethics) from the textbook to the film.
Depth of discussion matters in this paper. This
film was selected because of its robust discussion on Genetic Testing/Research
and its impact on health care decisions. A solid analysis would
take academic discussions (from the textbook) and synthesize it with real-word
applications (from the film). Ideally, you should attempt to apply (i.e,
cite) components of the textbook including the ethical perspectives from Chapter
One (Utilitarianism and Natural Law Ethics), the provider/patient relationship, social justice and health policy,
reproductive issues, and emerging technologies, or others if you find them
applicable. I expect you to be sure and discuss ethical perspectives from the
Chapter One (Utilitarianism and Natural Law Ethics) and then provide an in depth analysis as they relate to the documentary. An in depth
discussion would include at least 3 of the main topic areas of the text. I
don’t expect you to cover every topic area in the text as it would not be
possible in a three page paper.
