STEP 1: Pick and sign up for a social issue that you would like to explore
Refer to the class list when choosing and sign up with the teacher (everyone must choose a different topic)
If you are passionate about a topic that does not appear on the list, seek the teacher’s approval
STEP 2: Research your issue (using a minimum of TWO sources) in order to clearly and confidently answer these questions:
What is the issue?
Who is impacted by this issue?
Why do we need to know about this issue?
Ensure that you are using reliable sources when researching (e.g. encyclopedias, organizations, charities, etc.) and include MLA citations for your website/research sources. Do NOT use Wikipedia; anyone can edit this website which makes it an unreliable source.

Effective Research Skills
When researching your social issue, try to find TWO different sources that will help you to answer the essential questions. Keep track of your sources!
So, it is okay if you use the same source to answer more than one essential question, but it is vital to remember the importance of consulting more than one source in order to gain a well-rounded, unbiased perspective of the social issue.
For each source that you decide to use, perform the CRAAP Test:

does the person or organization sharing the information have the proper authority to do so?
is the information accurate?
what is the purpose in sharing this information and is the point of view unbiased?
