Your responses should be detail, insightful and in your own words. Your responses at a minimum of 200 words.
1. Explain the interrelated concepts of differentiation and integration as a cycle organizations may go through as they mature and grow. Use an example of your own to illustrate how the cycle works.
2. Compare and contrast mechanistic and organic designs. Be sure to define each concept first and then, using an example, explain how they differ. Under what conditions would each design be most appropriate?
3. Describe a conflict that you have recently been party to or have witnessed. What form was the conflict (functional or dysfunctional) and what type (task, process, relationship)? (Be sure to define each form and type first using the textbook and class discussion as resources.) Based on William Ury’s TedTalk, explain the concepts of “the third side of conflict” and “going to the balcony” and apply these to your personal example of conflict. How might these two concepts have impacted the conflict you were involved in or witnessed?
4. Review the TED Talk by Yves Morieux on the 6 rules to simplifying work rules that we watched in class. Based on Morieux’s expertise, what are his 6 rules and how do they tie in with what we have learned about management and organizations (design, structure, and operations management)? What are your thoughts with regard to the usefulness and practicality of his rules?
