Your presentation should include:
1) Title Slide (1 slide): Title of your policy and Your name
2) Intro to your policy (1 slide) Clear and general overview of the policy analyzed and Why you chose this policy
3) An historical/political analysis (2-4 slides)
· What led up to the policy being passed? In other words, what was the context/issue going on that led to the policy being passed at this particular point in time (rather than earlier or later in time)?
· Who (groups/individuals/elected officials) supported and who opposed and why? Do not just list groups who opposed/supported-provide information about why they supported/opposed.
· The focus here should be on who supported/opposed at the time that the bill was being considered—not later. There are often big organizations or interest groups that lobby for or support proposed legislation and this should be part of your discussion here. Further, if you want to include names of legislators who supported/opposed, do not just list the names but instead discuss why they supported or opposed (this may be a lot to research so I would recommend focusing more on interest groups/organizations/advocates for or against rather than the legislators themselves).
· Discuss stakeholders beyond political parties
· What related policies existed that your policy altered/changed (as applicable)?
4) Conclusion and Current Proposals for Policy Reform (1-3 slides)
You provide a conclusion for your presentation
You include a short discussion of the effects of the policy and current debates about it, as applicable
You provide some recommendations about changes to the policy/what could be done to improve the policy
5) References (1-2 slides) –should be ballpark around 5-10 references, please don’t use Wikipedia as a reference
