Your first paper was designed to focus your thoughts on how an individual contributes to IT, while the second paper made you think about what it means to be in a team as it relates to IT. This paper will focus your thoughts on how the decisions you make as an individual or in a team impact society at a global level from an external perspective.
There are many areas of focus as it relates to the global impact of IT and how they can drive how we perceive, make decisions, and contribute to society as a whole. As we think about what we have covered in the individual and team sections of this course, we need to now think about how the decisions we make will impact external viewpoints vs internal viewpoints as we did with the initial two papers.
You will need to put yourself in the position of an external individual looking at Rock Coast Bank from different viewpoints as a customer, member of the industry, public office, regulatory body, environmentalist, foreign national, etc. These viewpoints differ in their interest in the success or failure of Rock Coast Bank as there are always opposing forces and there are also degrees of opposition that drive the volume of conversation.
The core objective of this paper is to put yourself in the position of as many external viewpoints as you can and to identify the position you hold as positive or negative as it relates to Rock Coast Bank and “The Rock” application. You will need to research, think, and discuss these positions in the following sections.
For each section, you will answer the listed prompts in a narrative form (do not list the prompts and respond to them). Include citations where appropriate. The text should be 12pt Times New Roman with single spacing. At this point in the semester, we are requiring you to use APA citation style in the paper. APA citation will be required in subsequent courses in the ITI major so you are asked to start practicing here. For this paper, you are only expected to apply APA in the citations you use in your text and in the formatting of a reference page.
For assistance in understanding APA style, please consult the How to find resources by format page from the UMN Library.
Introduction
Start with your ideas/thesis on the subject at hand and start to build your narrative that will be supported by the rest of the paper and specifically the 5 sections listed below. 150-200 words
Government and Public Regulations
Cover topics such as: Thinking of different types of Governments, and how would they react to how something as simple as a banking application would affect their goals and objectives. From a global perspective, how do they protect their citizens with regulations and why is that important? Give at least three different types of government perspectives from three different governmental structures (e.g., USA, China, India). Some of the obvious concerns would be directly with how their citizens will be secured by the app, but find at least two ways that it would impact a different objective in those countries that could preclude those citizens from participating with the app. 200-250 words
Cultural and Ethical
Cover topics such as: How can cultural aspects impact how the app is being designed/defined? Explain at least three things that were researched to ensure that all global cultural aspects are taken into account when designing the app (examples would be the name of the app or possibly colors or graphics). What are two or three things that could compromise the value of the application from an ethical perspective? 200-250 words
Security and Privacy
Cover topics such as: Explain what design considerations (at least three) would be required for security with the application. What types of technologies could be used to ensure security so that no one could hack a user based on a mobile application? From a privacy perspective, what are the two or three attributes that are going to be required to ensure customer confidentiality? Privacy means different things to different countries so you will need to ensure two or three different types of governmental agencies and you will need to note the regulation(s) that are in place for those countries that would affect the adoption of the Rock Coast banking app. Also, in general, what are the forms of data that would constitute a need for protection from a privacy perspective? 200-250 words
Environmental
Cover topics such as: As “The Rock” is being deployed to the world, how does it impact the environment? We know that data centers are high-power consumers which drives the need for ever-increasing quantities of natural resources to be used. Explain how “The Rock” could be designed to reduce the amount of power required as well as how there could be other impacts to the environment. 200-250 words
Economic Impact
Cover topics such as Economies tend to follow governments on how they legislate laws, rules, and public opinion. Differences in governments will impact the ways that policy can make a difference in how their currency and things like GDP grow or shrink over time. This section will require you to discuss the impact of how two-three different government’s economies could be affected by “The Rock.” As it would be obvious that a simple banking app would not directly impact the economy of a government, think about other aspects of “The Rock” such as how it was built, who manages/monitors the app, and what other products/services are required to deliver “The Rock” to their customers? 200-250 words
Conclusion
Use this section to “wrap up” your thoughts based on your original thesis from the introduction. Should finalize your ideas using the 5 sections to support your original thoughts. 100-150 words
