April 29, 2024

Your final task is to carry out the project described in your proposal, taking into account any feedback that you received.
What you will submit:
All Snap code used for your project as an XML file (or more than one if relevant)
You must include comments your code describing the most important scripts and features
Image files or other deliverables – details depend on your project
If your project is a single static piece of art created in Snap, you should submit an image file (see instructions for exporting from Snap below)
If your project is a series of individual pieces, you should submit all of them as separate image files
If your project is interactive, you should submit a recording of you interacting with it (as in the video game assignment, a screen capture is ideal but a phone recording is acceptable)
If you have an interactive project that nonetheless results in a “finished product” at the end, also submit an image file of a representative example
A brief writeup addressing the points described below
Writeup details
Briefly describe what you set out to do in your project – what work(s) from UMMA did you engage with and in what way? This can be largely copied from your proposal!
Discuss anything that changed from your proposal to the final product. Did you run into limitations in Snap that prevented you accomplishing what you set out to do? Did you discover new capabilities in Snap that led you to change your approach?
Write at least one paragraph reflecting on the role of the computer as an artistic medium in your project – you might consider one or more of these questions from the project proposal assignment: Does code allow you to capture something about the theme of an existing work that couldn’t be expressed in the original medium? Does code fail to capture something that is key to the original work, in an interesting way? Does the precision of algorithms compared with the imperfections of human technique change the meaning of a particular work or style? Or more broadly, what was it like to work on this project, to engage with art in this way? These aren’t simple yes/no questions – you should make at least some reference to the details of your own work and the work from UMMA that you are engaging with.
Additional information and tips
Because of the short turnaround for final grades, you may not turn in the project after midnight on April 29.  Everything turned in after 6pm will be considered late and a grade penalty will be applied. No free days can be applied to the final project.
It is very highly recommended that you change the size of the stage in Snap so that you can produce a larger, higher-quality piece than is possible in the default 480×360 setup.
To export images from Snap, right-click on the “Stage” icon in the bottom-right part of the Snap window, and choose “pic”:
