Your final paper (~5-7 double-spaced pages, not including cover page and references) will give
you the opportunity to critically consider positive psychology as it relates your interests and future work as
a counselor. Drawing from independent research and reading, identify and describe a positive psychology
construct that you believe will be beneficial for your work as a counselor.• In the paper, you will:
o Describe the construct you have chosen
o Three strengths and uses of that construct
o Why that strength/capacity is important
o Any potential misapplication of said capacity (e.g., used to bypass/avoid emotional difficulty or
oppress/disempower self or others; sociopolitical context that makes it oppressive for certain
populations)
• Finally, you will identify a clinical intervention utilizing that construct and present a brief case study of
its application. This case study can be based on a real client (e.g., your client from your case
presentation) or a made-up client.
o As in the case presentation, you will provide a brief introduction to your client (deidentified)
and their context, and why you chose the intervention. Describe how you believe the
intervention will be helpful and any possible negative consequences.
o Also, provide a brief reflection on your internal process of applying positive psychology in a
clinical setting, any worries/anxieties you notice, and any growth edges you identify as a
counselor.
