May 4, 2024

You will submit a word document (PDFs will not be graded & you will be asked to resubmit) that meets the following:
i. 3-5 pages using APA formatting (double spaced, 12-14 font). See APA resources in Blackboard for support.
ii. No cover page or abstract required.
iii. Page count will only include the text related to the prompts.
❑ You will divide your paper into three sections. Using the headers below for each section address the prompts provided. Your paper should be written in a narrative, reflective format. Do not write questions with answers/responses.
❑ What? (First Header; Reporting what happened, objectively). Without judgment or interpretation, describe in detail the facts and event(s) of the service experience. Address the following prompts:
i. Describe your site: name, location, and what issue is being addressed or population is being served? If more than one site was used for your 20 hours, describe all.
I volunteered with CrossingPoints which is a program for college students with disabilities here on campus.  CrossingPoints is a transitional program that helps students with disabilities with independent living, social skills, and life skills.  CrossingPoints matched me with two students who had similar interests and backgrounds based on a questionnaire.
ii. What was your role at the site(s)?
I mentored one female and one male student once a week.  Some days we went for walks, other days we got lunch or a smoothie.  I would teach them skills like how to order, how to pay, proper manners for treating the staff and had conversations.
iii. What did you experience and observe on the dates you were there?
At first, my mentees were shy and uncomfortable in social situations, but by the end they were able to order meals on their own.
iv. What events or “critical incidents” occurred?
v. What was of particular notice? How did you feel about that?
❑ So What? (Second Header; What did you learn? What difference did the event make?) Discuss your feelings, ideas, and analysis of the service experience.
The Participant (You):
i. Did you learn a new skill or clarify an interest?
ii. Did you hear or feel anything that surprised you?
iii. What feelings or thoughts seem most strong during your experiences?
iv. How were your experiences different from what you expected?
