You will research and write a 5-7 page (12pt font, double spaced, 1 inch margins

April 21, 2024

You will research and write a 5-7 page (12pt font, double spaced, 1 inch margins) paper on any environmental issue of your choosing.  However, the instructor must approve your topic after the topic submission date. There will be three times when something connected with this assignment is due. (Note the ** along the left side of the syllabus).
(1) A topic idea
(2) Eight citations from peer-reviewed scientific journals
(3) The term paper itself
General information websites and encyclopedias (Wikipedia, How Stuff Works, About.com, Credo Encyclopedia, etc.) are not acceptable sources to be cited in this assignment.  While they are good for gaining background on your topic, they are not to be cited as sources in your paper. You may use no more than two sources from a general interest periodical, i.e. National Geographic, Audubon, Natural History, Scientific American, etc.  Everything else you will use for the information you gather for this project will exclusively be from peer-reviewed academic scientific journals.  We will discuss what “peer-reviewed” means and how to find quality articles on your topic during class time mid-semester. If our library does not have access to a journal that you may need, request the article from inter-library loan. It may take a few weeks to get the articles so you will need to start early in the semester to gather the articles for this project. We will discuss this assignment in class several times and a rubric will be posted to blackboard that you should refer to when doing the assignment.
