You will create a narrated presentation that is at least 6 to 8 minutes long.  It is fine if your presentation is longer.  I recommend using PowerPoint slides since most students will have access to this.  However, you may use a different presentation tool of your choice as long as the tool allows you to include audio narration.  If you choose to use PowerPoint to narrate your slides, open PowerPoint, click on the drop-down menu “Slideshow” and select “Record Narration.”  For more detailed instruction, click on the drop-down menu “Help,” select “Microsoft PowerPoint Help” and type “Record Voice Narration” in the search field.
Your presentation MUST include:
Introduction – Introduce your topic (i.e., What is your topic? For example, 13-2(a-d): Deductive Reasoning.  Why did you pick this topic?)  Your introduction needs to briefly sum up what you are going to talk about and why it is useful or relevant to your audience.
Background Information – Provide context and background information on your topic (i.e., What did you learn?  What are the key concepts and terminologies related to your topic?).  This is the main body of your presentation and should comprise a majority of your presentation.
Connections – Explain the practical connections between your topic and everyday experience.  Provide practical examples of how your topic fits into our day-to-day experiences.  This is where you demonstrate your understanding of how your topic applies in the real world.   You may reference any outside sources (i.e., journal articles, news stories, etc.) to support your examples.
Conclusion – Sum up with three take-aways from your presentation (i.e., What do you want your classmates to learn from your presentation?).  The conclusion is where you loop back to your original statement and give the audience some key takeaways on how they can put into practice what they’ve learned.
Citations & References – Be sure to provide proper citations and a list of references in Apa format
Depth of Research – Information is detailed and comprehensive.  Coverage of your topic is in-depth and complete.  You include relevant experiments as well as key terminologies.
Synthesis & Analysis – You process your topic on a deep level.  It is clear that you applied critical thinking and analysis on your topic.  The content is not just a duplicate of the information in the textbook but a thoughtful synthesis and accurate analysis of the texbook material.
Comprehension – You demonstrate understanding of your topic.  It is clear you are knowledgeable of your topic.  Your comprehenision is more than regurgitating the information from the textbook.
Presentation
Organization & Coherence – Information is presented in a logical and coherent manner.  Please be sure to follow the required presentation format (e.g., introduction, background information, connections, conclusions & references).   In terms of coherence, your presentation should flow in a story-like way.  The sum of your slides should possess a connectedness.  They should not feel like separate elements or a series of notes.
Quality of Slides – Information is presented and conveyed effectively.  Be intentional with the information presented in your slides.  Avoid too much text in slides.  Remember, less is more.  The purpose of your presentation is to inform and educate your classmates on your selected topic.  Therefore, ask yourself:  What is the best way to help my classmates understand my topic?  Is writing a paragraph on each slide the most effective way to convey the information?
Narration – Narration is clear and well-paced.  You speak with authority and confidence.  This is a required element of the assignment.
Citations & References
Your citations are cited properly in APA format in the presentation and on the reference page which should be the last slide in your presentation.
Please note that this assignment requires you to use your textbook as the primary source.  There should only be ONE source on your reference page because your textbook is the only source that you actually read.  If you want to read and use other sources in addition to the textook, please include them in your list of references.  Be sure to use the proper APA format associated for the type of source you use.
The proper format for APA reference entry for a book is:
Author’s Last Name, Initial(s).  (Year of publication).  Title of book (Edition).  Publisher.
The proper format for APA in-text citation for a book is:
Parenthetical:  (Author’s Last Name, Year of publication)
Narrative:  Author’s Last Name (Year of publication)
If you cite a secondary source (i.e., a source that was cited in the textbook), then you must write the words “as cited in” to indicate you have not read the original research.  The proper format for citing secondary source in-text is: Please note that this assignment requires you to use your textbook as the primary source.  There should only be ONE source on your reference page because your textbook is the only source that you actually read.  If you want to read and use other sources in addition to the textook, please include them in your list of references.  Be sure to use the proper APA format associated for the type of source you use.
