You will be taking the argument you wrote last, last, last week, switching the stance, then writing another argument to support the new stance.
For example, if you wrote an argument with the following claim and stance last, last week:
Spanking children is not an effective method of discipline because it only makes children afraid of their parents, it promotes violent behaviors, and it doesn’t teach children right from wrong.
For this week, you would write an argument with this claim and stance:
Spanking children is an effective method of discipline because it teaches them respect, it teaches them about consequences to bad behavior, and it quickly gets their attention.
Nitty Gritty
You won’t need an abstract, but you will need a title page, the main content pages, and a references page.
You should use 1 outside source.
Why are we doing this?
This assignment extends your writing and critical thinking skills by asking you to go beyond passive reading and acceptance of ideas to explore and develop your own ideas based on the evidence presented to you. You will have to think about your position then support those ideas with sound and logical evidence for a stance that you don’t necessarily believe.
How can I do well?
I will be looking at your paper and grading it based on the argument skills discussed in class as well as the basic writing conventions for a formal paper.
How is it supposed to look?
You should have a Reference page and in-text citations for this paper using APA documentation of an outside source.
As with all other formal assignments, this paper should be typed, double-spaced, and printed in 12 point Times New Roman font with 1-inch margins. The page should be formatted using APA guidelines, an example of which can be found in a previous module.
