You have spent the first half of the semester investigating an assigned topic. Now you will take an aspect of the topic that you learned about from the Informative Paper and write an essay that takes a clear stand on an issue or proposes a solution to a real-world problem.
Create a Research question that addresses some controversial issue of the topic.
Create a thesis statement that takes a side (for/against) a claim.
Include relevant examples and evidence from at least 10 sources. (You may use sources from Paper 1)
The sources should include scholarly articles, books, reports, and credible websites that address the topic of cults from different perspectives. The majority of your sources should have authors.
You must acknowledge and refute the opposing views
Length: 10-12 pages
Papers submitted without Annotated Bibliography, drafts, and any required workshops will not be considered for grading and receive a 0.
Al Usage: Level 1 for help with generating counterargument: Level 2: editing with Grammarly or other Al assisted editing. Both must be disclosed and cited.
Paper 2 will be accompanied by a short Annotated Bibliography. You will need to create a document that lists the sources you have found during your research.

Patrick Gray is a professor of religious studies at Rhodes College (Memphis, TN). The James Martin Center is a conservative organization and has a right-leaning bias, but this point of view will be helpful for the counterargument.
