July 8, 2024

You have now read two separate pieces of research that give context to the short story, “The Yellow Wallpaper.”
When we initially read a work of fiction, it is normal for us to put our own point of view into the piece. We make a connection to the literature based on our own experiences and life situations. Making a connection with a work of literature is the best place to start when performing an analysis. However, it does not stop there. After we have read, and formed our own opinions about the piece, in order to begin to write an academic essay that includes research, we must dig deeper. Scholars spend time researching and writing about literature. They submit their work to rigorous scrutiny in order to have their work published and accepted in the academic community. These publications appear in academic journals.
Now that we have read a bit of research on “The Yellow Wallpaper,” we are going to write an essay to include three outside sources. You may use one of the sources we have read, but you will need to find two separate sources to include on your own. This essay will follow the same format of the themes and elements essay.
n no less than 1200 but no more than 1,400 words, write an essay in which you discuss how the author uses literary elements to reveal a theme within the piece. This means that any essay which is less than 1200 words will receive a failing grade. Any essay that is over 1400 words will receive a failing grade.
Remember that a theme is a universal idea. It is the main message of the work. Literary elements for this essay need to be limited to setting, character, and symbolism. You will choose only one major theme, but three elements.
You must include three direct quotations from the story to illustrate your point.
You must include onen (and only one) secondary source in each body paragraph. This source must be incorporated through a paraphrase. YOU CANNOT DIRECT QUOTE from your secondary sources.
You can only have one quote per body paragraph. (Never use a quote in the introduction or conclusion paragraphs)
All quotes must be properly integrated and have proper citation. All paraphrases must be properly cited.
Your essay must be in proper MLA format, with attention paid to both grammar and mechanics.
You must include a properly formatted works cited page with you essay.
