You are serving as a practice manager for a multispecialty cancer center. The center has experienced a 20% growth spurt over the past 12 months, increasing the number of physicians and patient volume. However, your approval rate from the executive team to hire additional staff has been slow, impacting your ability to recruit new team members to support this increase in volume. In addition, the new hire recruitment process has increased in length of time, resulting in a minimum 8-week interview through onboard process. Due to short staffing and the slow new hire recruitment process, current clinical support staff, including medical assistants, LPNs, and RNs, are feeling burnt out and disengaged, and are ultimately looking for employment elsewhere. These team members are being asked to support more doctors and handle an increased daily patient volume. In an attempt to streamline the approval and hiring process, you have decided to put together an email highlighting the current issues surrounding staff burnout, disengagement, and turnover and a better staffing plan to support the increase in physician and patient volume.
Assignment Directions:
Put together a 1-page email to the executive team providing:
An overview of the impacts of staff shortages throughout the facility
Describe the increase in staff burnout along with justification for needing additional clinical staff
Explain how ethical management impacts staffing decisions
Cite articles giving data about burnout in the health care field
Minimum Submission Requirements
Proper notification of any resubmission, repurposing, or reworking of prior work per the Purdue Global Student Coursework Resubmission, Repurposing, and Reworking Policy Resource.
Respond to the questions in a thorough manner, providing specific examples of staff burnout, burnout definitions, and other elements. Your submission should be highly organized, logical, and focused.
Your submission must provide a clearly presented idea for how to combat short staffing, burnout, and turnover.
This assessment should be 1 page (not including the title and reference pages), completed in a Microsoft Word document.
Your writing should be well ordered, logical, and unified, as well as original and insightful.
Be sure to include references for all sources and to cite them using in-text citations where appropriate. Your sources and content should follow current APA citation style. Review the writing resources for APA formatting and citation found in Academic Tools. Additional writing resources can be found within the Academic Success Center.
Your submission should:
follow “email” format–single spaced, extra line between paragraphs; have To/From/Date/Subject at the top
be typed in Times New Roman, 12-point font
be free of spelling or punctuation errors
If the work submitted for this competency assessment does not meet the minimum submission requirements, it will be returned for revision. If the work submitted does not meet the minimum submission requirements by the end of the term, you will receive a failing score.
