You are responsible for writing an analytical short response paper that engages the readings, of your choice. In your paper, you need to put the works into conversation with one another.
You are tasked with identifying the overarching purpose of the text, describing their perspective on the given topic, and offering your analysis. You must engage at least three written texts in your paper.
Areas of Consideration:
What central questions or issues are the scholars focusing on within the texts? You must clearly and substantively identify the primary arguments for each of the texts in your paper. You are expected to provide at least two to three sentences to support your claim. For instance, if you were to analyze the article by Collins, you would identify her primary argument as addressing race, gender, and class as new categories of analysis that provide context for our varying positionalities.
After addressing the first point, you can move on to one or more the following questions. You do not need to answer all these question in your paper, these are designed to help you structure your thought process. If relevant, you are welcome to use any upcoming readings in this paper.
What aspects of the reading did you find particularly valuable, useful, or convincing, or compelling? In each instance, carefully explain why.
How would you offer a productive critique of this person’s work? After first explaining what is useful about the text or what it accomplishes, what gaps did you find?
What are the similarities between the readings you chose? How do they differ? In other words, how do you think Author A may respond to Author B?
Requirements:
You are expected to write these papers in a scholarly manner. Your paper must be 3-4 pages double spaced and in APA format. You do not need a title page for this paper. You need to include your name (First and Last), course number (WGS 110.01), and due date in the top left-hand corner. You may title your paper “Short Response Paper” center aligned before the text of your paper. A reference page is not required, however, in text citations must be done properly.
Citations
When paraphrasing information from a text, you will provide author(s)’s last name and year. If you are using a direct quotation, you must include the author(s)’s last name, year, and page number. For example:
Paraphrase
Angela Davis (2003) argues that Black women experienced gender-based violence in fundamentally distinctive ways under slavery. Black women’s experiences with violence were profoundly different than how white women experienced violence at this time. As such, […]
Direct Quotation
In her chapter “How Gender Structures the Prison System,” Angela Davis (2003) writes, “It should also be kept in mind that until the abolition of slavery, the vast majority of Black women were subject to regimes of punishment that differed significantly from those experienced by white women” (p. 67).
Components
Your paper must include the following components:
3-4 pages double spaced – if you do not meet this page requirement you will lose points
Clear structure – introductory paragraph, body paragraphs, concluding paragraph
Critical analysis of the texts
In text citations
Resources

They offer in person and virtual appointments that cover outlining, grammar, structure, and other areas that will help you write a strong paper.
