You are required to complete a 10 – 15 minute oral presentation that reflects on the course readings/videos from the War and Imperialism course section. The presentation is your opportunity to synthesize your understanding of the topic, and discuss how war and imperialism have affected cultural groups and communities throughout history and in the present moment.
In the presentation students should identify what they believe are the most salient messages and arguments presented by the authors of the readings/videos, and students should develop a cogent thesis and argument related to their reflection on the materials. Strong presentations will compare, contrast, and analyze multiple readings/videos and concepts.
Below are some guiding prompts, but students do not have to address these, and can address other compelling issues in their presentations:
What information/data on war and imperialism was most compelling to you? Why?
What evidence do the authors present that critique or challenge dominant narratives of politicians and governments?
What socio-cultural research approaches were used by anthropologists to advance our knowledge of the subject matter? How could these approaches be applied to other contexts?
Reflect on your own experience with war and imperialism: do your observations from your own life align with the findings from the readings?
