Hello everyone,
I feel like I have gained an immense amount of knowledge. When I first took the assessment back in week 1, I scored 29 points. Today, my total score is 36. Originally, my strengths were mainly my ability to maintain ethical standards, understanding the importance/benefits of information technology for patient care, and advocating for the use of new technologies. My weaknesses were understanding how to utilize CIS systems and actively participating in evaluations of information systems. While I wouldn’t consider myself to be an expert, I am much more comfortable navigating and experimenting with my hospital’s CIS. Taking the self-assessment again helped me realize how far I have come with my knowledge of information systems. However, it also served as a review of what my weaknesses are and reminded me as to why I should continue to improve for my patients and myself.
I think that there are several ways that I could improve my informatics knowledge. For example, there are seminars/workshops held every few months at my workplace that I could attend. Other strategies include staying up to date with advancements or trends and signing up for CE courses that go in depth regarding nursing informatics. Regarding my nursing practice, I will continue to advocate for new technologies in effort to improve patient outcomes. Also, I will try to be more open minded when it comes to using different technological resources, such as apps and AI.
