Writing Project 3 (WP3): Research Proposal & Annotated Bibliography
Purpose:
We’ve finished reading the excerpts from Rosin’s book, as well as other related texts. Now we
are ready to begin preparing to write our research papers. First, however, we need to devise a
writing project that allows us to enter into this ongoing conversation. This writing project, the
research proposal and annotated bibliography, is our first step toward doing that.
Your Task:
Your assignment is to devise a topic and research question, related to the subject matter of this
course, that you can investigate and write a research paper on. To that end, you will need to
figure out what particular area of this course’s subject matter you would like to write about, as
well as what you might want to say. You should identify a research question you would like to
answer by consulting other texts, and formulate a working thesis—a potential answer to that
question. You should also identify key terms you will be able to use to do this research.
You should then begin doing that research, and identify at least eight sources that will be
relevant to your research paper. You will present those sources in MLA format, briefly
summarize them, and (in a sentence or two) explain their relevance.
I am the audience for this writing project.
Resources:

Blackboard)
Adam’s sample WP3 + relevant lectures (at Blackboard)
Length:
One page overview of your research proposal, including your topic, research question, working
thesis, and key terms.
Both drafts must include annotated sources. Each source must be accompanied by 1) a
one-paragraph summary and 2) an explanation of how this source is relevant to your research
project. The number of sources will depend on the nature of the proposal, but in general should
be somewhere between four and eight.

I also provided a sample on the attatchment of a estimate of what the essay should look like.
