WRITING ASSIGNMENT:
10% of the course grade is allocated to the individual writing assignment. Students should select
and analyze the manufacturing operations of one of the top 100 manufacturing companies in the
U.S. The analysis will be summarized in one report which will include relevant background
information, as well as the nature of the products produced, and the production processes used, by
the company.
• The objective of the report:
Students should thoroughly research the company and learn something about its
manufacturing process. Students may learn something interesting about the products used
in everyday life.
• The content and the format of the report:
The report would include, but not be limited to, supply chain information, the location of
major production facilities (and, perhaps, the reasoning for those locations), a detailed
discussion of the manufacturing process itself, and how the company’s final products are
distributed. The report:
1. Produces a well-organized and neat report as structure is important;
2. Provides no more than 10 pages (double spaced; 12-point font; paginated and sourced
to the extent appropriate) – excluding sourcing. Refrain from using wasted words in an
effort to fill ten pages and proofread to avoid incomplete sentence structures and typos;
3. Provides exhibits. A picture can tell a thousand words;
4. Provides evidence of research and analysis; and
5. Provides evidence/integration of knowledge acquired from this course.
