Available Mar 19 at 5:01pm – Apr 9 at 5pm
Task:
The rapid increase of artificial intelligence (AI) vis-a-vis large language models (LLMs) is fast ushering in societal changes.  Long-held concepts including autonomy, agency, ethics, creativity, truth, and even love have a new dimensionality.  Given these changes, and our course content during this 2nd “Age of Information” Unit, we want you to write a 1200 word (5 page double-spaced) essay exploring one of the following topics:
AI, Autonomy, and the Quest for Authenticity: A paper focused on the role AI systems play in influencing human decision-making processes and how this challenges human agency.  Could further touch on questions of responsibility and accountability.
Creativity in the Age of AI: Collaboration or Competition?  Write on how AI is transforming the workplace and creative industries, focusing on the shift towards collaboration between humans and AI.
The Ethical Implications of AI in Shaping Society and Culture.  Delve into how AI technologies are not only tools but also actors that actively shape societal norms and cultural value
Quest for Truth: Navigating the Landscape of Misinformation.  Explore the critical role of AI in both perpetuating and combating misinformation in the digital age. Topical given the upcoming Federal election.
AI, Love, and Human Connections: From “Her” to Algorithmic Matching.  Write on the dynamics between AI and human emotions, specifically focusing on love and romantic relationships. Take inspiration from portrayals in media like the movie “Her” and examine how AI and algorithms are redefining dating, love, and emotional connections.
Whatever topic you pick, structure your paper using the classic essay model below:
Intro [~150 words]
Hook, Thesis Statement (main argument(s)
Body [~600 words]
~200 per main point
…STOP…
Next, for a twist, we want you to use ChatGPT to push back the horizons on of your thinking. In full, input the text you’ve written to this point into ChatGPT along with the following prompt (it’s okay to modify this slightly and/or ask additional questions that are in the spirit of what is below):
What are some counter-arguments to my positions here? What am I missing? How can my perspective / this writing be enhanced or broadened?
3. Analysis of ChatGPT [ ~300 words]
Reflect on how ChatGPT is engaging with your writing.  Summarize it’s feedback and critically analyze its usefulness and the extent to which it alters or deepens your initial positions.
4.  Conclusion [~150 words]
Recap your main arguments, Highlight the significance of your position
5.  Appendices [Excluded from Word Count]
We are requiring at least four citations in your essay, following the same APA format we’ve been using in our reflections:
Two citations from this unit’s content.
Two citations from external sources which support your position, furthers your argument, and/or is in conversation with the course content.
Note:  While they don’t have to be academic in nature, external citation sources should be reputable, meaning subreddits, blog posts, and most YouTube videos would strain under a definition of validity.  In general, if you’re asking if the source has credibility, it likely doesn’t.
In full, copy/past ChatGPT’s response from #3 above.
Themes in your writing may draw from (i.e. be inspired by) your earlier reflections / activities, but should not be a copy/paste collation.

Purpose:
We want to see your thoughts expanded in a deeper dive into a topic of your choosing (yet aligned with Unit 2 content.) This unit paper serves this function while also setting the stage for the unit presentation which is paired with this assignment.
Since there are 4 total required sources, you must find 2 external sources on your own and cite them properly. I am going to insert a link and article you can use for the 2 citations required from our unit. Make each the article and video separate citations then find the other required 2.  Here is a link to a youtube video we used in this unit https://youtu.be/9QSd3J8F3Po
One of the screenshots provided is the information needed to cite it properly, other other screenshot is a piece of a passage from an article we used from this unit that you can cite for one of the sources
