1. In the California POST field training program, one area of training I find valuable for police officer is the use of force training. I find this training very important because this course covers the appropriate amount of force necessary to subdue a subject. It covers when to use less then lethal or deadly force. Police officers have to pass a written exam, verbal exam, and field scenario in order to pass this portion. The second training I find valuable is the ethics portion. I find this training important because it explains what is acceptable and not acceptable for the officer. It shows how officers are responsible for their actions and shall be held to a higher standard, because of the power they hold. Two areas I believe may need more focus on for California POST training would be expanding their diversity training and response to mentally ill suspect. Focusing on these two areas can help California police officers when they respond to calls and may help deescalate situations. A lot of the officer involve shootings that have been making headlines lately have usually involved either a person of color or mentally ill individual. With focus on these two training this could help build a stronger trust with the community.
