Thesis: SHOULD NOT INCLUDE/MENTION the readings. Instead, it should present your argument about what you believe is the purpose of writing.
Prompt: Write an 900-1200 word self-reflective, argumentative essay that explores your own views on writing: what do you see as the purpose or function of writing in society.
While they will not be mentioned directly in the thesis, be sure to compare your views to that of Joann Didion’s “Why I Write” and William Stafford’s “A Way of Writing”
This is a self-reflective essay and will therefore encourage the use of “I.”
Examples: The Bible gives practical advice; beneficial for teaching, reproving and for setting things straight.
