read chapters #1 & #2 in “Wild Solutions.” You should then write a summary of the thesis and main points (only) in each chapter. Write the summary for each chapter separately. (Note: do not write a content summary. Do not write a book report. This is primarily a reading assignment that helps you learn how to read for a text’s argument.)
When you have written each summary, prepare a reference listing for the text, just as you would write it for an APA-style reference page. (Look in “Everyday Writer” for an example.) Be sure to cite your summary carefully using APA-style.
Follow these guidelines:
●Summaries focus on the “big picture” in the text, so you must summarize the thesis and all of the main points.
●Summaries always condense information.
●Summaries always restate the meaning of the text in your own words (no quotations).
●You should not borrow the author’s exact words.
●You should not borrow the author’s original sentence structure.
●You should not change the the author’s original meaning in any way.
How to write a summary using APA-style citation
●When you start a summary, you should use a signal phrase or a signal verb.
●Everything in your summary should make it clear you are referring to the author(s).
●If you start another paragraph for your summary, then start the paragraph again by using a signal phrase or a signal verb, just like you did for paragraph #1.
●Use past tense or present perfect tense for signal verbs, except when you discuss the results of an experiment.
