Final Paper Topic Choices
Assignment 1. Since this course is about comparative arts, write a paper that addresses the current state of antiracist arts in the nation. Has art been able to make any kind of a difference, or what is the role of art in antiracist or antifascist movements?
Assignment 2. One of the largest questions occupying current discussions has been whether there’s a fair comparison to be made between Antifa of the far left and white militia and white supremacist groups of the far right. Write a paper that addresses whether either group has been more dangerous in conjunction with the response to the BLM movement and racist unrest in American cities. Be sure to address how many deaths each group can be held responsible for historically, and how much actual destruction each group can be held responsible for. You cannot simply include your opinions. Your work must be backed up with proper sources, and you must acknowledge counter arguments.
Assignment 3. Write a paper that analyzes the art movement in the wake of the death of George Floyd. You can refer to the links provided in the Content section, and other sources. Your paper should provide an opinion about what the effects of the art are or have been, if any.
Assignment 4. On the 15th Amendment. Write a paper that addresses how you see the reconstruction amendments and the rights of citizenship being connected or not to antiracist and antifascist movements as of late. Be sure to refer to Eric Foner’s book as a reference point.
Assignment 5. On Minor Feelings. Referring to Cathy Park Hong’s book, write a paper that addresses Asian American involvement in current antiracist or antifascist movements, or do some research on Asian American artists and discover which ones are involved in antiracist or antifascist art. You will need to finish reading Hong’s book to take on this topic for the final.
Assignment 6. On Citizen. Describe how Claudia Rankine’s Citizen can be read as an antiracist book of poetry for our times, and how other art forms mirror or echo Rankine’s overall messages.
