The first step in developing your own theory of counseling is to explore your view of human nature. In this week’s assignment you will reflect on concepts you have learned and begin to identify what you believe about them.
Review the four reflective statements in Exercise 1.1 found on page 7 of Counseling Theory and Practice.
Write a 700- to 1050-word paper in which you describe your view of human nature. Use Level One Subheads for each of the following assigned elements. It is recommended your subheads should be the same as what has been placed in bold-face type below.
Individuals at Birth: Describe how individuals are at birth.
Biology, Genetics, and Environment: Explain the impact of biology, genetics, and the environment on personality development.
Ability to Chane: Explain an individual’s ability to change as well as what influences change.
Driving Forces Behind Change: Describe the driving force behind change as it relates to counseling.
Conclusion: Conclude with a reflection and summary of what you have learned from this exercise about your potential theoretical orientation to counseling.
