WRITTEN ASSIGNMENT #2: Reflecting on your Chosen Career A common experience that students face, is that that they THINK they know what a career/job/position is like, and then enter it only to find out that it is something completely different. Before spending years of training in the wrong career, it is important to truly understand what you are getting into. To learn about this skill, the professor has scheduled a number of online video chat informational interviews with professionals in various jobs. Interviewees were/ will be asked to discuss their career paths along with aspects of their typical day, the pros and cons of their career, what types of strengths make someone well-suited to their position, what types of qualifications are necessary to achieve the position, and so on. You are welcome to conduct your own informational interview instead, if you like. In that case you are responsible to find your own interviewee. After this interview (either one from the website or your own), you will write a 4-page reflection on what you learned from the experience, whether the career choice seems like a good fit for you and why, and what steps you will take to move towards this career (or another career if this is not what you want to do). The grading rubric is posted on the website.
(Remember, even if more than one person is interviewed in the video, you have to write about just one person’s statements).
