Imagine that you have been provided two scientific theories to review and appraise from two different geoscientists. As you review the theories, you notice they are alternative views to the concepts you have been learning in this course. You have decided to ask your science faculty member for help with understanding the proposals. Your faculty member asks you to create a memo outlining the proposals and your thoughts so that, when you meet to talk, you both have important information to guide the discussion.
Review the continental drift and plate tectonics theories.
Read “‘Hidden World’ Discovered in Earth’s Core” from the University Library.
Write a 350- to 700-word memo to your science faculty member in which you detail the differences between continental drift, plate tectonics, and the ideas from the Hidden World article. In the memo:
Briefly summarize each theory.
Identify similarities and differences between the theories. What are points of agreement and disagreement between the theories?
Describe the questions you, as a geology student, have about each theory. What makes sense? What doesn’t make sense?
Describe the strengths and limitations of each theory.
Format any references according to APA guidelines. You will need to use in text references as you will be reading articles from resources. You will also need to provide an end document reference page in APA format.
Note: This is a fictitious scenario. You don’t actually need to contact your faculty member.
