Recognize and analyze the way source materials make theological claims or make the sacred present.
Your paper should investigate a woman who is described in the New Testament. You will make a claim about the contribution that woman makes to the biblical story and salvation history. You will then demonstrate your claim by arguments based on the biblical text and other relevant sources. Your essay should conclude with a discussion of the relevance of this woman for understanding current situations and for making ethical and moral decisions in the twenty-first century. Your essay must include footnotes at the bottom of each page that cite at least five sources. All online sources must include the URL in the footnote. Your essay must be typed, double-spaced with a twelve-point font, and written using good English. You must submit your paper online in Canvas by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, April 22, 2022. Your grade will be reduced by 10% for each day or portion of a day that your essay is submitted after this date and time.
Your essay will be evaluated according to the following criteria. The points each criterion contributes to the final grade is noted in parenthesis: STYLE: Satisfactory and consistent form, proper English usage, standard spelling, no typographical errors, style marked by variety in vocabulary, interest, economy, energy, and clarity (25 points); RESEARCH: Evidence of at least five relevant interpretive sources used (50 points); ANALYSIS: Recognition, understanding, and clarification of the central critical, exegetical, theological, ethical, or practical issues involved in the passage/issue under investigation (50 points); EVALUATION: Scholarly reactions to and appropriation of the sources consulted and the positions they present, critical appraisals of their significance, integrated utilization of personal study and relevant research data (50 points); SYNTHESIS: Adequate introduction, an integrated, coherent, relevant, and practical body, conclusion, and summary of results (25 points).
