Because this essay is about breathing and mindfulness, there’s also a short video about using mindfulness strategies (in this case, children learning to use them).

Did the writer of “Learning to Breathe” learn to connect fully with her patient, or to separate herself emotionally, or neither? What do you think about her approach? What’s the balance between support for patients and support for yourself?
Now that you’ve witnessed a few opportunities to experience moments for being mindful (for example, in the short science lecture videos each week) and the input from these kids, how might you envision the benefits for this when working in ERs and ICUs?

1 issue. Get in the habit of using spell & grammar check and providing references for college-level writing. Personally, I am a poor typist and need to autocheck everything I write. For instance, I tend to reverse g and n in words ending with “-ing”. It’s annoyign when I don’t catch this typo. If you catch me makign a typo in announcements or assignments (other than in this rubric where I’m doing it on purpose as an example), message me through Carmen and I’ll waive 1 such error for you for every 1 of mine you catch so I can fix it! You might be surprised how this adds up given my lack of touch-typing skill…
