Why rents in Boston so high?

October 31, 2022
Christopher R. Teeple

My question is “Why rents in Boston so high?”

Overview

Identify a problem found in your personal or professional life, a problem for which you can form a viable solution. Write a persuasive research-based essay using at least 4 sources and APA citation format. The essay must identify the problem and then lead readers to consider or accept a reasonable, practical and implementable solution(s) to the problem. (Your solution does not need to be original. Instead, you should rely on your sources to identify the best solutions offered by experts on your topic.)

Structure of Essay 3

The organization of Essay 3 should follow the Classical model of Argument:

INTRODUCTION: Use facts, names, numbers, statistics and details to illustrate the issue about which you are arguing.
THESIS STATEMENT: Close your introduction with your thesis statement.
THESIS: Write a concession thesis statement. EX: A thesis will begin with the word although or despite to show a CONCESSION or COUNTER- ARGUMENT:
Example: “Although some politicians believe climate change does not exist, the scientific evidence proves the international community must cooperate and act now in order to prevent tremendous loss of life.”

HISTORY: Provide the history of the issue that closely connects with your thesis statement. This section is neutral in tone. You should describe the causes/effects that makes this problem need to be solved.
REASONS AND EVIDENCE: Write more reasons and evidence that support your thesis. These are the key claims in support of your thesis, including how/why your solution is merited.
ONE OBJECTION TO YOUR THESIS (this is the concession in your concession thesis):
RESPOND to OBJECTION: What would you say to your opponent to respond his or her objection?
CONCLUSION: Conclude your essay by discussing what is possible if your argument is accepted.
Note on the solution you propose

To be persuasive the solution you propose must be practicable and implementable, showing the reader how your solution will work and in some cases how it can be paid for. For example, the solution to health problems caused by smoking should not be: Stop smoking. Rather the solution should be how to change behavior that will result in decreasing smoking: raising the cigarette taxes, banning outdoor smoking, etc. You need to also anticipate any objections that your reader might have with your solution. For example, if you were arguing that in response to global warming the gas tax should be significantly increased, your reader would want to know how he/she can cope with a gallon of gas costing $6-7. What will that mean to the cost of transportation of food, for example? Rely on your research to document scholarly responses to these kinds of issues.
