This personal statement is to appeal for financial aid, which got suspended due to my low GPA. I am attaching a screenshot of the questions below and I’ll also write my rough explanation for the low GPA below.
For question 1, Why I failed to maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress?
***Reasons***
>>> Main reason why I have a low GPA is because this is my first year at the University of Houston (UH) and I took one summer class (Math 2413 – Calculus 1) at UH in which I made a C- (1.67 GPA) that’s why I have a 1.67 Cumulative GPA.
>>> I am recently made a decision to change my major, from pre-Nursing to Computer Science and I am admitted into UH as a Liberal Studies major and my goal is to change my major to Computer Science after the fall of 2022, in order to change from liberal studies to Computer Science (NSM college) I need to have 6 hours of Mathematics (Math 2413 and higher) taken at UH. When I enrolled for Calculus 1 (Math 2413) over the summer, I was not really prepared for it and initially, I didn’t have a plan to take summer class, but when I attended the orientation, I realized that I still had time to enroll for a summer class and if I take Calculus 1 over the summer then I can take Calculus 2 in fall and after fall I can change my major to computer science. Since I am changing my major I have all of the Core classes done and all I have left are major-related classes, for which most of them have prerequisites, that was another reason for taking calculus 1 over the summer so I can take other classes in the fall that required cal. 1 as prerequisites. In that way, I would have enough classes to take every semester and I might be able to graduate early.
For question 2, What adjustments have you made that will help resolve the issues above?
>>> I have been watching youtube videos and doing extra practice online for calculus 1 and 2 so I revise everything from calculus 1 and prepare myself for calculus 2.
