This is an individual assignment. Each student chooses a successful social media channel of their choice, and analyses the content that this channel publishes.
The content creator must be a company, not an individual creator. Their revenue must come from sources other than their channel. Musicians and other artists are not allowed. If you are uncertain, check with the instructor whether your choice is acceptable.
Students are expected to answer the following questions:
Why did you choose this content creator?
Who owns the channel, who are the creators?
How do they make money? If they have multiple sources, which are most important?
What kind of content do they create?
Which media do they use (for publication and/or promotion)?
What makes them successful?
How do they rate in: knowledge, credibility, entertainment, communication style
Who is the target audience? Are there sub-groups within this audience?
What is the channel’s positioning, how do they differentiate from other channels?
How would you describe their communication style? What is the tone/mood?
What are the channel’s main ‘content pillars’ (= subject categories)
Where do you think they get ideas for their content? What kind of process do you think they have to generate ideas?
Does the channel have certain ‘formulas’ that allow them to replicate content easily?
Expected output: Word/PDF document, 3 pages max, no other formatting requirements. Additional pages may be added for photos, diagrams
and other images.
