As you answer the questions provided below in your essay, you should take into consideration that you are living off of the land, as a native or pioneer would, without the conveniences of modern technology.
Why did you choose the Biome and aquatic system?
Why do you feel best adapted to that Biome and ecosystem?
What would be a few key abiotic (non-living) and biotic (living) factors relative to the combination that you would need to be aware of and adapt to in order to survive, stay alive and thrive.
How would you protect yourself from any hazards or risks imposed by such an environment (such as extreme temperatures, precipitation, or predators)?
How would you utilize the abiotic and biotic resources to your advantage (For example, can the abiotic resources provide you with materials that you can use to build structures or use as tools?
Which plants and animals would you share it with (and possibly depend on for food, clothing, medicine, or materials used for your shelter or daily tasks)?
What other “Stakeholders” might have an interest in “your” ecosystem and how might their activities impact your community and the sustainability of the biome and aquatic system on which you depend? Stakeholders are any entity that may have an interest in, or role in managing , natural resources or ecosystems (Ecological Stakeholder Overview.pdf Download Ecological Stakeholder Overview.pdf). Some legal scholars also claim that animals, plants, or other parts of Nature can also be stakeholders, in that they play a role in maintaining homeostasis in Ecosystem Services (as we covered in Chapter 2). We see many threats to each type of Biome in today’s world, you should not need to go too far to find out who might want the resources that your ecosystem provides.
What actions of stewardship would your community members take to ensure that the ecosystem would stay sustainable and not be disrupted by the other stakeholders that you discussed (keep in mind that you are pioneers in a new land, no local law or government)?
