Which crimes could you arrest the person(s)?

August 27, 2022
Christopher R. Teeple

You are on duty as the police officer on patrol. While driving around the city, you come upon the following situations. Review the scenarios carefully and then address the prompts following the scenarios in a 2-page reflection.

Scenarios:

Two teenagers are walking around late at night. They come across a home belonging to another kid from school. They know the family is away for the weekend at their cabin. One of the two teenagers pries open a window in the back of the house and goes inside—the other hides in the shadows outside, watching for the police. You are the officer sent to the address because of a silent house alarm. You arrive and surprise the two teens. One of the two teens is holding an iPad that you determine was taken from inside the house.
A man is walking to his car in the parking lot of the local health club. As he was about to open his car door, suddenly another man appeared, armed with a knife, and said, “give me your backpack!” The man gave the suspect the backpack, and the suspect ran away behind the club. You have been called to meet the man in the parking lot.
A woman is sitting at a table in the local library. She has her laptop out on the table and is in the middle of getting some work done. Another woman walks up to her and begins to angrily complain about how she stole her parking spot out in front of the library. She is upset by how far she had to walk in the rain just to drop off some books. The upset woman (the suspect) balls up her hand into a fist and smashes the keyboard of the laptop, causing several of the keys to break off and fall onto the table and the floor. You are called to the library to calm the argument between the two ladies. The victim explains to you that it will cost about $300 to fix her computer.

The assignment:
