When writing a rhetorical analysis, the writer analyzes and evaluates an argument based on its author’s utilization of the three appeals (ethos, pathos, and logos).
Now that you have an overview of the rhetorical analysis, it is time to select your topic.
To select your topic:
Find a current event article based on the medical field that you would like to analyze for your assignment.
Once you have selected your article, answer the following questions
What is the context, audience, and purpose of the argument you selected?
Is it a compelling argument? Why or why not?
Does the author utilize the three appeals? Provide an example from the argument of at least one instance of ethos, pathos, and logos.
Create an outline for your selected current event article. See this Rhetorical Analysis Outline as an example.
The outline should include:
Introduction
Summary Paragraph
Analysis Paragraph 1 (ethos)
Analysis Paragraph 2 (pathos)
Analysis Paragraph 3 (logos)
Concluding Paragraph
Each section’s content should be written as concisely and precisely as possible. Proper grammar should be used, but the outline does not need to include complete sentences. Include a proper title page for all writing assignments.
This assignment is about providing analysis of the author’s use of logos, pathos, and ethos in developing a balanced argument, not the student’s views on the subject. Supporting evidence paragraphs should focus on usage of logos, pathos, and ethos. Include a proper title page utilizing APA 7 standards. Please note that APA 7 prohibits titles over 12 words.
