This will be a written assignment for my ethics class regarding the importance of the protection of human research subjects and informed consent for my doctoral ethics class.
For this particular assignment, using McNamee, M. J., Olivier, S., & Wainwright, P. (2006). Research ethics in exercise, health and sports sciences. Routledge. Chapter 4 (pp. 67-90) Respectful research: why ‘tick-box consent’ is not good enough and Chapter 8 (pp. 149-164) Research ethics and vulnerable populations., Steneck, N. H. (2007). Planning Research. In Introduction to the responsible conduct of research (pp. 31-45). Washington, DC. , and the other provided files, respond to the following 2 topics:
For this assignment, create a plan, based on scholarly best practices, to obtain informed consent from your potential research population (effect of daily vs. weekly check-ins for adherence in an online fitness & nutrition coaching program). Your narrative explanation should be in paragraph form, using current peer reviewed sources, to fully explain the following:
1. What you will include in your Informed Consent Form and why.
2. What procedures you will use to deliver consent materials.
3. How you will explain those materials to participants.
4. How you will collect/store signed documents (Briefly – this will be fully addressed in the next module).
5. If minors will be included, how you will obtain both parent permission and child
consent forms. (If children 7 years and under are included, a procedure for obtaining oral consent must be used).
Following your written assignment, create a sample 1-2 page Informed Consent Form aligned to your narrative explanation.
I have attached recommended resources to elaborate on the assignment expectations. Make sure to provide substantial evidence from scholarly resources and refrain from making generalized statements. Textbooks, blogs, magazine or internet articles, book chapters, or special reports, do not count toward scholarly resources.
Your narrative paper should be 4-6 pages, followed by your 1-2 page Informed Consent Form (not including the required Cover Page or Reference page(s)). Submit your Informed Consent Form as an Appendix at the end of your essay. Current scholarly literature and citations should be integrated throughout the entire paper vs. opinion-based writing. Your APA formatted paper should include a clear introduction with your purpose, subheadings, and a conclusion that reiterates the salient points already shared. Citations and references are not needed in your Informed Consent form. Rather, this form is something that you would present to the research participant(s), in clear and easy to understand terms.
What you will include in your Informed Consent Form and why.
